So Larry turns 35 on Thursday! He and I have had some long talks lately about our childhoods and things we have done and have never done. I found that my husband has NEVER had a birthday party. The year he turned 31 we went out to dinner with a few friends and I think that is the closest he has ever been... anyway I thought this was the year and he needed a party!!! So I called up all our friends and they came through. We met at this great pizza place in West Salem and they surprised him. I love that it actually was a surprise and he wasn't suspiciouse! We had pizza, his favorite cake (German CHocolate!) and played pin the tale on the Donkey. I wanted a pinata and a few other games but I thought the pizza place might not appreciate it... It was a lot of fun though. Happy Birthday sweetie! More surprises await you!!!

This Old House!
A few posts ago I talked about finding a bunch of our old pictures and wanting to post some of the pictures of our first house. These are all the "before" pictures. So for those of you who have seen the after will appreciate all the work we did. Those of you who have not seen the after I will try to wrangle a few after pictures and post them soon... but hopefully I will be in the hospital and won't. We will see. But for memory sake here are some before shots of our first house.
This first picture is the front of our house. Cute right.... never mind the fact that there are giant bushes that we ripped out, and it was right on Hwy 99! The second picture is just the other half that I couldn't fit in the picture. The "garage" they had started to turn into a "bed room" or storage room of some kind but was never finished and was some what falling off the house. It was torn off the first few days of us owning our new home!

This is a side shot of our house. Notice how they had put nice siding on the front of the house. Then if you look you can see this old green wood siding. We loved this pear tree that was a good 30 plus feet tall. It gave us so many pears that we usually were sharing them with our ward after we had canned and dried all we could! The grapes had grown up into the pear tree also! These grapes were ready to pick when we bought this house and I was canning grape jelly and grape juice off of it that season. I think I must have done it at our apartment the first week or so before we had moved in because the house didn't have electricity or water.
The second picture is of the "bonus room" we used it mostly as a storage/work area for the first couple of years we lived there. It had the really ugly striped carpet and black chimney in there!!! But eventually we painted it beautiful yellow, had really nice carpet put in and had a really great play room up there. I also had my elliptical up there and a tv. We loved that play room!!!

This one is of our "master bedroom." The closet thing was so awesome we ripped it out right away. Which was replaced with a walk in closet off the back of the house along with a master bath! We also sheet rocked this room due to all the construction done. We closed off the door to the right that led into the kitchen. Oh and we also updated those light fixtures you will see in many of these pictures with the shoe strings to pull them off and on! There were only 2 light switches in that house when we bought it. We had more then that in the living room alone with the remodel!
The second picture in this group was of the "nursery" we didn't do a lot to this room other then fix the closet, rewire all the lights and plugs, new windows, carpet, and paint! It was a very pretty soft green.

This is another picture of our Master bedroom. You can see these awesome shelves that they had in EVERY ROOM of the house. I am not joking they were in every room! Living room, kitchen, bonus room EVERYWHERE! They were all mismatched hangers hung with huge screws or 16 penny nails (that is a very big nail!) And they didn't have nice pretty shelves on them most of them were just old pine boards, many of them very ugly wood that they had painted weird things on one side... What were they thinking?
The second shot is of the living room showing the 2 bedroom doors from the living room. It also has a picture of our awesome heater. More on that in a minute.

The fist one is more of the living room going into the kitchen. It shows that awesome heater again. I call it awesome because it was a gas furnace that worked even with out electricity. It didn't have a fan but it would heat that living room, which is what we needed. We moved into this house the day after Thanksgiving. The great part about that is that we had torn off half of the house and many of the doors and windows that lead out to the torn off part that we were rebuilding were only covered with plywood! We lived in the living room. We set our mattress on the floor right in front of the heater. It was our only luxury. We had no lights, or running water! I was 5 months pregnant with Ethan when we moved in!!!
The second photo is of the stairway. It was right in front of the door. If you hung a coat on the post at the end you couldn't open the door all the way. We also loved these posts because one morning while we were laying in bed we noticed that they were colored peach, pink, peach, pink all the way up the stairs! This was funny to us, as well as most of their paint choices. But they were eventually removed and replaced with a beautiful oak that Larry built! He also took out the little cupboard under the stairs and built in an entertainment system there. We loved it!

This is a picture of our kitchen showing the door into the bathroom and the back door. The backdoor lead to a "mud room" that was falling off the house. The bathroom was so ridiculous I don't know how they lived with it. The plumbing was beyond ridiculous! Both were ripped off the first weekend we owned the house. In their place was a new wonderful bathroom, although the entrance was off the hall from the kitchen, a pantry for all our canning/food storage, and a laundry/ mud room.
The second shot of the kitchen shows the kitchen counter tops. For those of you who don't know those counter tops were "low." That is to most people standards. I remember standing at them one day doing dishes in the sink and realizing that I could do that with out having water run into my arm pits! (Which happens at tall kitchens because I am reaching UP to reach the sink!) But these were just the right height for me. When Larry was ready to tackle the Kitchen remodel I asked for the counters to be the same height! Because he loves me and it was "my" kitchen he did and I always loved it! Although when we did remodel we had to make the counter that went over the dishwasher bump up about 3 inches. Still looked great! We also closed in a few of the windows that looked out into the mud room but kept the low long one. I loved the light it let in and it made a great place to put plants.

This last one is of the kitchen cabinets. They were so ugly with the gross green and grey paint that was everywhere in the kitchen. But when Larry redid the kitchen and I had all oak cabinets I loved them! I also loved that they were "low" and I could reach the second shelf easily. It was like the kitchen was designed for me even before Larry redid it. We were able to just leave everything the same size just put new ones in that weren't smelly and dirty and falling apart! Larry did a wonderful job making that house beautiful, new and fresh! It was hard to let go of all we had put into it but we knew it was time to get off the Hwy, and move our kids to a quiet street. We love our quiet dead end street! What a great adventure that house was!

100 club!
Last summer I set a goal to fill every jar we own with home canned something! We just about made it. There were a few pints left... (which honestly I only use for jam, and relish and I made PLENTY of that!) So all my quarts were filled though. I was pretty stoked! Then this spring I looked in our garage, (6 months pregnant) and thought hmmmm look at all those empty jars. WHO ate all that food!?! Great now I am going to have to fill them up again and be pregnant while doing it!!! I was actually kind of sad. I decided it was good that we had emptied so many because that means we were using it and that was the purpose right? Right? Ok so I thought well I will just do the minimum to get us by for next year. Then we got started. Larry has been more help then I think is even fair for him but he has been amazing!!! Although at times I wanted to punch him when I would say bring home 3 boxes and he always came home with 4 or MORE!!! But when he would do most of the work and I was basically giving directions and helping I couldn't complain. So this year we have not only refilled our jars but ended up getting some out of a hidden storage in Larry's shop. And we bought a 3 boxes of 4 oz jars because we tried something new Jalapeno Jelly. Which is FABULOUS! So now I am just about to deliver a baby (I hope!!!) But really could be any day now, but tonight Larry and I surpassed my hopes from the beginning of the season and finished our 100th quart of spaghetti sauce!!! One sister from our ward said something in Relief Society about me canning 900 quarts while I am 9 months pregnant on Sunday and I have had at least 3 sisters since ask me about it. I kind of laugh and say no no it wasn't 900 jars this summer!!! Really I didn't can 900 quarts. I asked Larry where this sister might have gotten that number. (Thinking he said something while cleaning the church Saturday.) He said he told her that we have about 900 jars. So yes I probably do have 900 filled, but I didn't fill them all this year. But probably we filled more then 300. Thanks to my wonderful husband who helped a ton and would massage my feet when we were all done! The funny thing is that we aren't done. We still have some tomatoes in our garden to can and we have a neighbor tell us he was going to bring us some too. I keep hoping we can finish this up so we can clean up the mess, put stuff away so that I can finish my "nesting" but I am ready for the baby to get here so I guess I can wait and let Larry clean it up if the baby comes before we finish. Hoping for this weekend!

Larry's project!
For the past year Larry has been telling me that we were going to refinish the wood floor in our kitchen THIS summer! I kept thinking yeah yeah... But I knew it had to be done. We planned on doing this while the kids go to "grandma camp" in 2 weeks but since we had to move vacation, he couldn't get time off during the week of "grandma camp". Soooo he had Friday "off" ( I say "off" because as usual he got called in to do 2 jobs.) Anyway Thursday night he came home with all the supplies, and sanders, and set to work. He was up really late Thursday night sanding away! Friday a little more sanding and the first coats of sealer, and stain. He told me he was surprised I hadn't blogged this yet. He knows me too well. But I told him I thought about it but realized I hadn't taken a before picture so I could do a before and after shot... But I need to recognize all the hard work he is putting in anyway so here I am! He has been working hard and is ALMOST done. There will not be any other pictures of my house!!!! What isn't sitting on the back deck is in my living room so we are living in a mess, with a thin layer of dust on everything. I am not even going to bother to clean it up until it is all the way done since he has to do a light sanding between ever coat anyway. What would be the point. We have to only go in and out through the garage because he figured while we are at it we might as well do the landing at the bottom of the stairs at the front entry. The kids are being good sports about it. The main issue is cooking... We fix simple things, on the bbq, or eat cold cereal all on the back deck. Good thing the weather has been so nice. Hope it holds out for about a week because we don't want to move anything across the floor till it is really set. You can walk across it when it is "dry" but you don't want to slide heavy stuff on it till it is really hard. So we will be eating outside for a few more days/week. Not sure what I am going to do for Sunday dinner tomorrow...
Here is a picture of my hero husband working away on the floor. Don't look too closely or you will see the next project that is to come! Since we moved everything out and could see more clearly then ever the disgusting walls in our kitchen Larry and I are both wishing we could have painted before doing the floors. But Money is the issue and one project at a time. It is sad because washing them does no good! The paint that the people used is super cheap and when you try to wash them the paint comes off and the mess stays! What is up with that!!!! We would like to have this project done soon but have to plan ahead... The living room is in desperate need of paint too. They are the only rooms left we haven't painted (other then the up stairs bathroom I just realized) Every thing else we have painted since we moved in. So hopefully soon we will be living in new colors and washable walls! Anyway yeah for my handy husband and his skills! We are the proud owners of a new shiny floors!

Change of plans....
This week I have been making plans, gathering things, and have done some shopping... All so we can leave on vacation on Saturday. We look forward to this every year. A week of water skiing, swimming, playing games, fishing, and being lazy by the lake. Last night Larry was loading some of the things we have bought to take with us and cut his knuckle open on the truck. He was going to just bandage it but after I looked at it I knew he needed some stitched. We called our super hero baby sitter at 8:50ish and asked if she could come and stay with our kids we had just put in bed while I take Larry in to the ER. Her very nice mom brought her too us and we headed off to Corvallis. We have several choices where we live but with all of our ER experiences we have found that Corvallis is the most efficient, and competent service. We got there and I sent Larry to check in while I made a potty stop and when I got there he was getting checked in and triage at the same time. The immediately walked us to a room and we were taken care of and done in about an hour! He ended up with a small cut into the tendon and six or seven stitches. I am not a queasy person when it comes to blood but I couldn't watch as the doctor was poking around inside the wound. He told Larry to not get it soaking wet, no dishes, no long bathes, swimming... I said but water skiing is ok right. The Doctor thought I was joking kind of laughed and said no. I said no I am serious we are suppose to leave for vacation on Saturday. He said it was not a good idea and he wouldn't do it. With it cut into the tendon if it gets infected and the infection gets into the tendon they could have a really hard time getting rid of the tendon! Sooooo We are changing our plans. We haven't set our date for vacation yet. We are still trying to get a hold of his boss to give us a week in August that will work. So there was some excitement last night and hopefully this will work out for the best. Our sweet friends who were going to come with us were only going to get to be with us about 2 1/2 days now maybe they will get to spend more time on the lake with us. The kids are a little sad that it isn't just a few days away now but understand that it wouldn't be any fun if it were them that couldn't swim, ski.... So we just modify our summer plans and move on. It will be great what ever week we go anyway! Poor Daddy! Hopefully he will heal quickly and everything will be good as new. Dr. says 2 weeks till the stitches come out since it is right on the knuckle. Anyway he is doing ok and we will carry on!

Strawberry Heaven!
So this morning I asked Larry if he was going to take the kids to pick strawberries for me so we could make some jam. I told him I didn't need a lot since I had done so much last year... Mental note and duh to me since I already know this about my husband.... Tell him to get half the amount you really want! I told him 2 flats is more then enough. I knew he was picking them so we don't have flats I just sent him with bowls and he wanted buckets for picking into also. I said the 2 bowls full would be plenty (they are giant metal bowls I use for canning). He came home with the two bowls heaping full and 3 buckets full. We made a few calls to see if anyone else wanted some because that was waaaay more then we needed. Luckily we have good friends who were willing to share our "burden" So what do you do when you add.....
About 34 cups of sugar
You get about 50 plus pints of the yummiest strawberry jam! Oh you will also need a few hours to mix these all together. But since I have such an amazing husband it took me half as long or less then it would have to do this by my self! He really is the most amazing canning partner I could ask for! Even if he does over do it when it comes to buying the fruit EVERY TIME! You would think that going with him would stop this event but it doesn't he even did it with peaches once while I was standing there telling him to STOP PICKING! Gotta love this man!!! At least he helps me take care of it all. We also froze several gallons whole so that we can use them for waffles latter on, or for strawberry lemon aid. There are several quarts frozen for later also for mixed berry jam. But now my feet hurt so it is time for my wonderful husband to rub them with lotion and paint my toe nails since I can't reach them anymore anyway! Oh and this evening when Amelia told my I should paint my toe nails again (they are pretty chipped and I was painting hers) I told her I couldn't reach them any more and she very sweetly said. "oh yeah cause your getting so fat." Thanks!Tuesday, June 9, 2009
In Full Bloom!
Joseph's Coat
Sterling Silver
Tree rose
I love spring time when all my bulbs are blooming in my yard. But as soon as as they are all gone something else wonderful comes out of hiding. My beautiful roses. Larry does a wonderful job at fertilizing, and pruning them. I love to smell them. We always have lots of people tell us how beautiful our yard is because of them. But Larry really does all the work. I use to do a lot of it but the more children we have the less yard work I end up doing... Someday I will enjoy working in the yard again. Till then I just enjoy looking at it. I also have to give some credit to a sweet friend of ours that moved to Alaska. She gave us a Joseph's coat. Which is a rose I had wanted for a long time because I love the colors of them. She had one in a pot and gave it to me when they moved. It was around 2 or 3 feet tall when she gave it to us 3 years ago. Larry pruned it back to under 4 feet in Feb. It is now at least 8 feet tall and covered with the beautiful variegated yellow, orange, red rose. They are so vibrant and the colors change as the bloom and I just love them!!! Thanks Julie!

Cravings and true love!
So at 13 weeks pregnant I have had some off and on food cravings. My husband has learned that if I start fixating on a food it is much easier to run out and get it for me (because I am to lazy to do it my self!) then to listen to me keep going man I really want..... for days on end! So Last night I just kind of mentioned the fact that I had been craving pie for 2 days! He very sweetly said what kind do you want. I tried to do the "no, you don't have to I don't NEED pie." But he asked what time the store closed and decided he better do it now asked what flavor I wanted and headed out. The phone rang a few minutes latter because they didn't have the kind I had asked for. I ended up with Half a very yummy apple pie and me being the big pig that I am lately ate all but about 5 bites of it. Larry came in to finish it up and said, Mmmm what I could taste was really good. He is so nice to me and I was so selfish and pigged out! What a wonderful husband! I actually considered taking a picture of the pie last night for proof but I ate it too fast so sorry the only proof is the wrapper in my garbage can!

Ethan's skiing lessons
Dad says he did a great job and they had time to go down several runs after the lessons together. Now Daddy will have a ski partner for year to come! (Since I haven't skied since the 6th grade and who would watch all the kids if I went?) Maybe in a few years Brock will join the crew, then Amelia, then Hayden and eventually I might get in the swing of it and it could be a family event! Well see about that! Ethan is hooked though!
On their way out of town they picked up some lunch at Safeway. I had bought them some snacks too take along too. So they hate a nice hearty lunch and hit the slopes a little longer!

I love this picture of me opening presents. I wish I knew what I had opened and why it was soooo funny to Leti!!!

This is a few days later I was fitted for my wedding dress (I was only fitted one time!) The woman did an amazing job!!! Man was I skinny then... Oh to be 10 years younger and 25 lbs lighter!
Oh and for those of you who might remember or those who don't, that night is also the 10 year anniversary of Larry cutting the end of his finger off. We were suppose to go to a dance after my bridal shower. I think he just didn't want to go. The next morning I went to the temple for my endowments.... Larry was hurting pretty bad poor guy! At least he was all better 2 weeks later for the honeymoon!!!!

Happy Birthday Larry!
Today is Larry's 33rd birthday! I am sooooo glad that he is part of our life! He is a wonderful husband who tends to me more then I would have guessed or asked for in many ways, he is a great dad who loves his children. The girls cry if he isn't home before bed time to tuck them in (this is a new ritual that I LOVE as much as they do!) He plays with our kids in such a fun way, and is their hero because he can fix EVERYTHING! He works so hard to provide for us and is a wonderful man all around! We are so lucky to have him! He supports me as mother, in my calling and in my hobbies. I couldn't ask for more! Happy birthday to my wonderful hero! To those who don't know I bought him a new tv for his birthday. I was pretty proud of myself because I got a great deal on a wide screen HDTV! I gave it to him a few days early because, after he had done a bunch of shopping on line for a tv and comparing brands and stuff (then I went and bought one with out him knowing) he started shopping for something else on line, and then told be if we were going to buy it we needed to right away because it was going off sale... So I gave him his gift early so he could decide which one he wanted. We stuck with the tv. (I got a great deal at Costco! Gotta love the 2 year warranty!) Oh and please excuse the fingerprints. You can tell we have 4 little children who don't keep their paws off of anything! I didn't even see them till I posted the picture! I also made him his favorite cake. German chocolate. I make it for him every year! This year a few weeks before his birthday he was home teaching and the Mom of the family he was visiting was making a German Chocolate cake and she makes her frosting from scratch! (I always buy mine in a tube) Anyway she let him taste it and he came home telling me she makes the best German Chocolate in the WORLD! So I got her recipe so I could make his cake extra special. Now he won't ever settle for less! Any thing for my wonderful husband! Love you Larry!!!!

Tree choping time!
With the winter storm we had just before Christmas we had some of our trees take some pretty bad damage. One of them had the top hanging over our neighbors house. The others we were worried about them falling on our house if we had any bad wind storms. So it was time they all came down! We had 5 BIG Pine trees. They were about 100 feet tall I would guess. So Wed we had a tree removal company come and cute them all down. It was kind of fun to watch. The little boy I baby sit was thrilled watching the guys climb the trees and chop them down one piece at time!
Who wants that job! Not me I am terrified of heights!

Father and Son Camp out!
I took advantage of them being gone. Not only did we do our girls night of scraping and sleep over in mommy's bed but I had a garage sale while they were gone on Saturday and got rid of a bunch of old stuff they never play with anymore but I know they would have cried telling me how much they loved each of their things! Anyway it was the end of my major spring de-junking spree and it worked out nice. Other then the sunburn for me it was a great weekend. I wanted to sleep like 24 hours when all was done and said but I was happy to have it all gone and the boys had fun too! Our Father's day was nice and peaceful too. We went to church, came home and fixed a very yummy dinner. I cooked steaks on the grill, made baked beans, salad, baked potatoes, and brownies for dessert. It was so good. We had hear that the Bishop was going to be all alone so we invited him over for dinner too. Larry's grandma came and shared our day too. I think the kids wore her out! They are always so excited to see her! All in all it was a crazy busy but fulfilling weekend!

BUSTED!
Saturday night I went to the temple with Allison and my in-laws were baby sitting for me. (Larry was on call) So when I got home at 10:30 Larry was sitting at the computer desk and he just smiled at me and said "a slip-n-slide hu!" So I fessed up! He wasn't mad though. He just told me we couldn't use it every day. Which I know that we won't! I am not willing to pay the water bill that would follow every day usage. He actually thought it was kind of funny that I was trying to be sneaky but put it on the blog! Anyway I am not in trouble! Although he told the kids while I was gone that we were going to have to throw it away. (mostly to tease them!) In the morning Brock came to me very quietly and asked, "mommy do we get to keep our slip-n-slide?" I told him, "yes we can keep it. Daddy was just teasing you."

My Mother's day
This is a lovely picture Ethan painted at school for me for Mother's Day! Can you tell it is me! I love that my lips are a heart! He also made some cute cards and things for me. Brock made a cute magnet with a close pin on it in Kindergarten. He opened it his self and told me it was for him and he would share it with me! What a sweet boy! Amelia made these really cute flowers in a jar at preschool that she wanted to give to Grandma (my mom!) which she loved!
